Some Languages Are Spoken More Quickly Than Others

We all make judgements about how someone is speaking. Speakers of some languages seem to rattle away at high speed like machine-guns, while other languages sound rather slow and plodding. That's also the case with dialects in your own country. There are characteristic differences in speaking speed.

Measures of speaking in different languages

Some languages are spoken more quickly than others as a natural result of the way their sounds are produced.

Speaking as an illusion

We get the impression that some languages are spoken more quickly than others because of some sort of illusion.

Social and personal factors and speaking rate

In some societies it is regarded as acceptable or approved to speak rapidly, while others slow speech is preferred.

I don't mind when people speak fast, however I am nog a fan of people who speak very slowly. It tends to be a bit annoying to me.
